# Billing and plans

Your personal account and each organization have their own plan. See the
personal plan at **Settings → Billing**, and an organization's at
**Billing** in its settings (`/orgs/<handle>/settings/billing`). Organization
owners and admins can view billing; only owners can change it.

## Plans

| Plan | For | Price (USD) | API rate limits |
| ------------- | ------------------------ | ---------------------- | --------------- |
| Free | Personal or organization | $0 | 1× |
| Pro | Personal | $20 per month | 2× |
| Team Standard | Organization | $40 per seat per month | 5× |
| Team Premium | Organization | $80 per seat per month | 10× |
| Enterprise | Organization | Contact sales | 20× |

Private repositories are free on every plan during the public beta.
[Pricing](https://staging.git.cafe/pricing) lists each plan's storage, repository and
transfer allowances. The rate-limit multiplier applies to every member of an
organization; see [API rate limits](https://staging.git.cafe/docs/reference/rate-limits.md).

## Upgrade

1. Open the billing page. The **Current plan** card shows your plan, its status
   and its renewal date.
2. Under **Upgrade**, choose Pro (personal accounts) or a Team tier
   (organizations). Enterprise links to sales.
3. Complete payment in Stripe Checkout. An organization pays for one seat per
member; outside collaborators do not use seats.

You return to the billing page when Checkout finishes. The plan changes once
payment is confirmed; refresh the page if it still shows the old plan, rather
than starting another upgrade.

## Manage payment and invoices

With an active subscription, **Manage payment & invoices** opens the Stripe
customer portal, where you can change your payment method, download invoices
or cancel.

A **Past due** status means a payment failed; update your payment method in the
portal.

## Control seats and overage

Organizations on a per-seat plan have:

- **Seats**: seats in use and an optional **Seat limit**. Adding a member
beyond the limit is refused; leave it empty to let seats follow membership.
Your subscription's seat count follows the member count automatically.
- **Overage**: allow usage beyond the plan's limits, with an optional monthly
  spend cap in dollars.
