# Labels

Labels categorize issues and pull requests. Each repository has its own set,
managed under **Settings → Labels**. The label picker on an issue or pull
request links there through **Manage labels**.

Anyone who can read the repository can browse its labels. Creating, editing
and deleting them requires permission to manage labels.

## Create a label

Choose a name (1 to 50 characters), an optional description and a colour:
pick a preset swatch or type a `#rrggbb` value. The chip above the form
previews the result.

```sh
cafe issue label create bug --color "#d73a4a" --description "Something is broken"
```

## Edit or delete a label

Edit a label's name, colour or description in place. Deleting a label asks
for confirmation and removes it from every issue and pull request that has it.

If someone else changed the label first, your change is rejected and the list
refreshes; apply it again.

## Apply labels

Use the **Labels** picker in an issue or pull request sidebar, or:

```sh
cafe issue label add 12 bug
cafe issue label remove 12 bug
```
