# Milestones

A milestone groups issues and pull requests toward a shared target, such as a
release, and tracks how many are done. Open **Milestones** from the issue list,
or **Manage milestones** from the milestone picker.

## Create a milestone

Choose **New milestone** and enter a title, an optional due date and an
optional description.

## Track progress

Each milestone shows its due date (**Past due** in red while it is still open),
the start of its description, a progress bar, and open and closed counts for
its issues and pull requests. **View issues** opens the issue list filtered to
that milestone. Use the tabs to switch between open and closed milestones.

## Assign issues and pull requests

Use the **Milestone** picker in the sidebar, or
`cafe issue milestone <number> <milestone>` and
`cafe pr milestone <number> <milestone>`.

## Close, edit or delete a milestone

Edit the title, due date or description in place, and close or reopen a
milestone when its work is done. Deleting a milestone asks for confirmation;
its issues and pull requests stay, without a milestone.
