# Star a repository

Star a repository to bookmark it and show your appreciation. The **Star**
button and the star count are in every repository header.

- Choose **Star** to star the repository and **Starred** to remove your star.
Signed-out visitors are asked to sign in.
- The people icon beside the button opens the list of everyone who starred the
  repository.
- Your starred repositories appear alongside your member repositories in the
sidebar, ordered by most recent repository activity.

The `/root` repository list also shows the most recently active repositories
first. Successful pushes, repository edits, issue and pull-request changes,
comments, reviews, and star/unstar changes count as activity; browsing does not.
Activity is shared across users, not a personal browsing history. Background
processing updates recency after a write and refreshes lists for viewers following
that repository. Activity alone does not refresh every organization member's
list; other viewers see the latest ordering when they return to the tab or fetch
the list again. Repeated star/unstar requests that do not change anything do not
advance recency. Repository creation, removal and access changes retain their
normal directory notifications.

From the terminal: `cafe repo star owner/repo`, `cafe repo unstar owner/repo`,
and `cafe repo starred` to list your stars.
